Project DevelopmentThe Department of Public Policy (DPP) faculty, staff, and students assist governments and nonprofit agencies in a variety of ways including policy research and analyses, public management studies, and program evaluations. In 2006 DPP had sponsored research and assistance projects of about $3 million. DPP faculty members are regularly sought after for commentary, testimony, and advice in areas including disaster management, public opinion, public finance and budgeting, education finance, and social policy. Our Department is a resource for many types of public policy research, and we would be happy to work with your agency or organization in identifying your research needs and the best way to meet them. To be effective, those in local government service must adequately respond to the many questions and demands raised from citizens, community groups, political leaders, department heads, and employees. It is with this in mind that Model Practices for Municipal Governments was developed. It is designed to assist both elected and appointed municipal officials with selected key practices in various municipal functional areas. The authors of this volume, collectively, have over a century of experience serving as municipal chief executive officers in towns and cities throughout the nation.
